Madisonville man walking on I-12 dies after being struck by motorhome, LSP says

COVINGTON, La. (WVUE) - A Madisonville man died Monday afternoon (Feb. 26) after being struck by a motorhome while walking on Interstate 12 in St. Tammany Parish, the Louisiana State Police said.

The victim was identified as 47-year-old David Brassieur.

State troopers did not explain why Brassieur was on the interstate on foot, but said he was “walking on the roadway on Interstate 12 westbound” near US Hwy. 190 when, for reasons still under investigation, he was hit shortly after 1 p.m. by a 2022 Mercedes-Benz motorhome also traveling westbound.

State police said Brassieur “sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash” and died while being treated at a hospital. The driver of the motor coach was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured, the LSP said.

Crash investigators collected toxicology samples from Brassieur and the driver for further analysis, the agency added, but there was no indication the driver was cited.
