Boise man gets community service, probation after vehicle crash kills 7-year-old boy

A 19-year-old Boise man was sentenced to community service and probation after a summer 2019 crash killed a 7-year-old boy.

The Ada County Prosecutor's Office says Conner Brant was sentenced on Tuesday.

On July 18, 2019, officials say Brant was driving west on Amity Road near Cloverdale when his vehicle went over the fog line and hit a boy who was riding a bicycle with his friends. The boy, Eduard Prokopchuk, died at St. Luke's a day later.

Prosecutors had asked for 11 months in jail and supervised probation.

Judge Daniel L. Steckel sentenced Brant to 64 days in jail to be served as community service and suspended 300 days in jail. He'll also have his license suspended for five years and will be on unsupervised probation for two years.

“I want to extend my condolences to the victim’s family and thank the Ada County Sheriff’s Office for their hard work investigating this case,” said Jan M. Bennetts, Ada County prosecutor, Jan M. Bennetts.
